My name is Sarah, I am a freelance oboist, teacher, and reed maker in the Baltimore area. I am perhaps an oddity among oboists because I *like* making reeds. It is a meditation in mindfulness for me.
My primary reed making instructors have been Eugene Izotov and Naomi Bensdorf Frisch during my years in Chicago and Mark Hill in Maryland. I taught reed making classes at the University of Maryland while completing my DMA and now teach privately in addition to selling reeds and cane. I make my reeds in my home studio in the woods of Northern Maryland surrounded by the catbirds, chickadees, cardinals, titmice, and wrens whose constant songs inspire me.
